In my Mishima Plates I focused on Shape and Color, my inspiration of these plates was a raccoon and trash can, why I did these two together is because raccoons are commonly found in trash cans, To start why i did a raccoon was because I think raccoons are very interesting animals with the way they react to humans . How i constructed this, I found my inspiration photos, they were printed out and set a side. I then picked the shape I wanted my plates to be, when rolling and flattening my clay, I placed it on the shape mold i wanted to do, after molding it, i carved out the raccoon and trash can onto the plates. and they were set into the kiln, after that they were colored and covered in clear coat.
Wheel Throwing Project
In my wheel throwing projects I focused on the balance of shape. my inspiration for some of these projects was floral themed, and midnight skies. why I chose these two themes for my projects was because my vase was designed to be a rose popping out to be more 3D while my bowl with floral flowers designs goes with it, I enjoyed how the blue made both the mug and vase look, as the blue on the cat vase popped out white speckles to look like stars, and the black on the top rim of the mug faded downwards with the blue and mixed well. the process of making all these projects was very slow, being unable to use the wheel throwing, they were all slabbed made. I first started with the floral vase, making sure when flattening the clay it was tall enough for the form of the vase, the same process had to happen with also my cat vase, when making bowls and mugs, mugs focused more on heights, while both focused on with to make them more wider. when finishing the shape and forms of all projects, I was able to bucket glaze and underglaze while using other methods, some methods including watercoloring, bubble wrapped, underglaze slip design, and mixing two different bucket glazes.
Tea Set
In my tea set I focused on proportion and space, my inspiration for this project was based from a Studio Ghibli movie called "Spirited Away", with the base being the bath house, the handle being the dragon named "Haku", and the cups being "soot-sprites". why I chose this project to be based off that movie, is because I believe the movie is very inspiring, showing how the main character doesn't give up and tries her hardest to do all these challenges to get her parents back no matter how difficult and out of place she felt. The process of this project started with measuring and cutting out shapes for the base to build the bathhouse, after constructing and taping all the pieces together, they were then taken apart, and used to be placed on top of flat clay to be cut out. After the bath house was built, I was able to put in small details and start to build Haku for the handle. after finishing the base and the handle, I was able to build the cups of the soot-sprites, they were then placed into the kiln, the bath house was painted with bucket glaze, well the cups had layers of underglaze.
