This is my charcoal portrait; this was the project I struggled the most with due to stepping out of my comfort zone going from cartoon to realistic. Some things I struggled with in this project was working with measurements and placement for the Eyes, Mouth, and Nose. But some things I succussed with during this project was the highlights, shading, and face forming. What I learned in this project was that I need to get better with realistic when it comes to self-portraits or in the future working with other portraits for other people, I need to be able to take what I see in my reference and put it on my charcoal work paper, and I believe in the future I will get better at that. What I thought was interesting when working on this project was how fast it all came together, and when making a mistake how nice it looked after fixing it and how it changed everything.
Media Bootcamp:
This was my progress work with working with different medias (Pencil, Colored pencils, pastel, marker, and pen). During this I struggled a bit with the colored pencils and markers, why I struggled a lot with these two was because I flipped on the wrong side of the paper for the colored pencils so when working on it, it came out lighter than it should have and it was much harder for them to blend into each other, and for the marker I struggled working on getting the colors to blend into each other because of how easily markers bleed, but other than that I think I liked how the marker one came out and the colored pencil one could have been better but it wasn't horrible. Things I succussed on was the pen and a little bit of the pencil, these were not too hard, I had a better time with the pen working with lines and dots, then with the pencil I had a hard time trying to get the median scale on it, but after while I liked how it worked out. What I learned during this was to focus on my median scale better, and when working with colored or normal pencils, to let the pencils blend into each other and avoid using white as a blending method.
Drawing from reference photos:
This was drawing from a reference photo to help improve my financial empowerment project. Some things I struggled with was the positioning and posing, why I struggled with these the most was because when I draw normally, I usually do shoulder up, I struggle a lot with hands and body formation, and doing this helped me a lot learn better about it. With struggles there's successes, so some of mine were after working on one to two poses, I got better at working with bodies and hands, and really bringing out the message I wanted to convey in the following project. What I learned while doing this project was, to be free and have fun, that working with reference photos can really help you when drawing for a project or maybe even improve your drawings in the future to give you ideas.
Financial Empowerment:
This is my Financial Empowerment project for a future competition, in this we were supposed to draw a picture that really captures a important message about our world and show the audience this message. A little bit about this project for background information is, I believe our money is spent on impulse and not focused on our future. Due to these impulse purchases, it causes people to fall down in theses holes of debt, and the government (the puppet master in the drawing) can easily hold onto you when you fall into these debts. Not only do people fall into debt, but a lot of people are greedy and believe they need more money than others in this world, so how I indicated this was on the right is a woman trapped in debt and can't voice out how she feels because she can't do anything about it, and on the left is a man who is greedy and all he sees in this world is money. In the middle is supposed to be a place holder of you (as the artist I put myself) who is holding a dollar and getting to choose how they get to spend their money whether on "Priority", "Budget", or "Impulse". Some things I struggled with was picking what to do for the photo, like the poses, the message, and the people in it. Some things I succeeded in was coloring, colored pencils are so smoothed and easier to work with then marker or charcoal, so when working on the color schemes. It was much easier for me to input. What I learned during this project was the message, how different everyone can show financial empowerment.
Gridded Work from a Reference Photo:
This is my gridded work from a reference photo, this photo was taken during homecoming with my partner and a few of my friends. The median I used during this was pencil, during this project some things I struggled with was shading and using my pencil and working less on outlines. I needed to focus less on outlining the figures of the people and more of using my median of the pencil to show darker parts and lighter highlighted parts, I also struggled with faces on the people, why I struggled with this part was because working with a small space of a person to put in a face was super difficult. But some things I had an easier time with was getting the people put in and positioned where they were on the paper. What I learned during this project and overall, all my projects throughout this quarter were to work less on outlines of people, and allow the median you're using to take control of the paper because it makes a huge difference when you work on these projects, I also learned that value is super important in certain areas because it makes the areas more focused on,
