This is my "Themed Altered Book" Project, the book I selected was based of many different things about the world, like the animals, humans, and space. I got to explore the humans features of the body, with this I created three things from the body (Spine, Skull, Hands). The theme I wanted to portray was the 3D of the features popping out of the book, on the page that is showing the spine itself. I was able to learn about different shapes and colors being used to make this form. creating trapezoids for the spine and the cylinders for the hands, and using red, brown, and yellow to add depth and shadows to add definition and the popping out display. Some things I struggled with this project was the skull, having to create a paper version of the skull first before paper mache it together. This project took time having to wait constantly for things to dry before working on more layers, or different parts. when having the hands done first, it was mod podge to the paper causing me to not be able to have anymore paper to use. I believe I should have started on a different section to make things easier, but I really like how the head and spine used from different pages gave it a bone like color. With this project I wanted it to display like if you were going to a museum and looking at the glass displays.
Surreal Clay Project
This is my "Surreal Clay" project where we took compound words and created them into surreal clay creatures. The word that I chose to use as my compound word was "Catfish", why I decided to choose this word was because I really like cats, and would think of cats this was the first compound that came to mind. during this process I needed to use quite a lot of clay especially for the head and body, I focused more on texture and pattern details when it came to the body of the fish and the head of the cat, some struggles I went through with this project was before I use newspaper, the body kept caving in and leaving holes to where it would fall down and another struggle would be how much clay usage do I use, I could have probably used less to be able to add more stuff. Some things that I believe that were successful about this project were the features, like the eyes of the cat, the fins to the fish, and the legs for the cat. some colors that I used for this project were green and blues for the body of the fish, and some reds and browns for the cat head.
Papier Mache Animal
This is my "Papier Mache Animal" project, where we were given drawings and had to create them starting from cardboard, to paper mache, to them painting them and giving them back to the creator of the drawing. This project mostly focused on shapes and structure to make sure it is able to stand and it looks exactly like the drawing. What I believe was successful about this project was having the knowledge about the inspiration creature that they used, being able to get my cardboard in a good shape to match the drawing as best as I could. Some things I struggled with was time, when it came to painting some stuff did seem rushed due to having to layer and color match the color again, and another struggle was being able to keep the figurative stand up, due to the newspaper at the feet it did make some difficulties for the project to stand up on its own but ended up fixing that. I really enjoyed the creativity being put into this project, it brings out that childhood creature making, which allows the Creator to have lots of fun messing around and getting it to match exactly like the drawing.
Abstract Plaster Sculpture
This is my "Abstract Plaster" sculpture, where we picked a certain mold to put our plaster in, and then to let it dry for it to be carved out into art. During this process, i began to focus on working on the shape of the sculpture, With this process, I was able to explore different tools to cave into my project, with this we used files, hammers, and drills. Some things that I struggled with during this project was drilling the holes, I've never used a drill before so this was an experience, other things I struggled with was filing out the shakes and accidentally scratching the plaster causing me to fix it when i had to sand it down. Some.things that were successful were to give the illusion of abstract, and how its not symmetrical and its "different", i like that it isn't perfect and gives of a two face look
